I helped with recreational activities at the Special Olympics athlete village. I also helped organize and run softball and tennis ball throw.
I was tasked with setting up and breaking down the snacks and water tent for the Fit Family D4 5k. I also handed out water to runners.
I shagged balls for the tennis matches, then stayed around a little after to hand out medals as well as help break down the event.
I helped run a free throw and around the world competition for the Texas Senior Games. It was cool to watch older people stay active and display competitive mentalities. It shows how sport can carry on throughout your life and keep you sharp and healthy.
I volunteered for the Texas Senior Games, helping them organize their racquetball tournament as well as determine rankings and give out medals. Athletes aged from 55 to 88. The Texas Senior Games helps keep older people active and encourages them to do it in fun ways. The athletes really seemed to enjoy their racquetball experience and were all very appreciative of the event and volunteers. It was all around a really good experience and I enjoyed being able to help the athletes enjoy their tournament.
