I volunteered at the Children's Shelter. It was a cold day, so the kids stayed inside for most of it. We helped them with snack time and lunch and played with them.

This day I played with the older children in the park. It was fun. We played hide and seek, tag, and I pushed them on the swings. We had lunch and then I read one of the kids to sleep.

At the Hope Hall Social, I helped make care packages for the Catholic Worker House. The packages included snacks and water bottles as well as encouraging notes. Overall, we prepared about 80 packages.

I worked with the babies this week at the Children's Shelter. I was able to make the kids laugh, which is always a rewarding experience. One of the kids really enjoyed watching the little rolling toy that had balls that would pop up. I also was able to make this little girl laugh by dancing around with her and spinning around.

This day was fun. I first played with the kids in the art room -- they are very creative. I wish they had more supplies so that the kids would color more. The kids were also able to play outside. I worked with the toddlers and they loved the toy cars that they could ride on. I would push them around, and they would laugh. It is so great to see the smiles on the kids' faces. I also helped play with some of the older kids who were doing sidewalk chalk. I showed some of them how to make handprints in the chalk and they were so excited that they made so many of them.

This time I didn't get to work with a lot of kids, but I worked with one who was trying to make a toy car. This was difficult because the instructions were hard and the kids have very short attention spans, so keeping their interest was difficult. However, we finally made it and the kid was really excited.

This was my first time volunteering at the Children's Shelter. I worked with the toddlers who were very excited to have volunteers. The most difficult part was getting them to sit down while eating lunch, to get them to eat lunch, then to put them to bed for a nap. I was able to get two kids to fall asleep for nap time. This first experience was difficult because the kids were so much younger than the ones I worked with at SAMMinistries. However, I was able to adjust and learn how to interact with them at my future visits.
