The Family Assistance Crisis Team (F.A.C.T.) volunteers have worked since 1991 to eliminate domestic violence in San Antonio. This program offers concerned community volunteers ways to provide crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence.
A multidisciplinary team of facilitators from the community provides this 17 hour training. During these sessions, participants learn the basic dynamics of domestic violence, effective listening and crisis intervention skills and available community resources. Sessions are scheduled each January, May, July, and October.
F.A.C.T. volunteers work once a month on a Friday or Saturday night to provide crisis intervention services for clients coming in for assistance at one of the police substations. Hours are 6PM until 1AM or 7PM – 2AM. Volunteers making this choice are asked to work at least once a month for six months.
After working at least six months in the substation, volunteers are eligible to apply to ride with an officer one Friday or Saturday night 10:30p.m.-6:30 a.m
