F.A.C.T. (Family Assistance Crisis Team) is looking for men and women wanting to be part of the San Antonio Police Department’s multifaceted approach to assist victims of domestic violence. This volunteer program is part of the Victims Advocacy Office.

Volunteers/Interns work one Friday or Saturday night a month from 6 P.M. until 1 A.M. or 7 P.M. until 2 A.M. at one of the 6 substations throughout the City.

Volunteers/Interns are posted at the substation to handle;
any domestic violence phone calls that may come in,
community members walking in needing assistance concerning domestic violence or
if an officer brings in a survivor of domestic violence for resources.
The volunteer’s role is to listen to the individual and find out; what’s going on in the relationship, what help do they want, where resources are in the community, effects on children when there is violence in the home, and the need to have a safety plan whether returning home or thinking about leaving their abuser.

Interns may work more hours a month to complete the hours needed per their professor.

Interested students must complete an application form, and have no convictions on their record. References are checked as part of the application process.

Potential volunteers/interns must attend a set of 17 hours of training classes to acquire the information needed to assist people.
Sets of classes are only available every quarter; January, May, July and September.
Training consists of two full Saturdays from 9AM until 4PM and a short Tuesday evening from 6PM until 9PM. All three classes must be attended. Volunteers/Interns within the Police Department must also attend a VIP Orientation class on a Saturday, from 9AM until 12PM.

Anyone interested in becoming a FACT Volunteer please call 210-207-2305 or email ivie.tovar@sanantonio.gov
and Ivie will send you the next set of training classes along with the application and directions to class.

Thank you for your interest!
